In our federal system of emergency and disaster management, state and local governments are responsible for the implementation of projects and programs to reduce risk. Similar to the policy areas of education, immigration, and healthcare, there are differences in how subnational governments approach disaster mitigation – and how effective their actions are. To explore this on the state level, PEW has created a dataset of state benefits using federal disaster mitigation grants. It is available here: https://www.pewtrusts.org/en/research-and-analysis/articles/2019/06/17/data-highlight-state-by-state-benefits-of-federal-natural-disaster-mitigation-grants
